Hey all... long time no see. Sorry I have been MIA for such a long time. I've been having camera trouble and well, as my friends know, I really hate to post without pics. But I figured I'd better poke my head up since it's really been a while now and at least write something. So here goes...
It's been almost 2 months (yea that long) since my last post (read = CONFESSION)...
Hard to know where to begin. June is a busy month... so many things are winding down for the summer. The preschool program I attend with my daughter just finished this past Friday (sniff.. sniff!). I took some pics with a disposable camera so once I finish off the roll I will hopefully be able to get some of those up here. The kids were really cute singing their songs for the parents. I gave the lead teacher a tea rosebush, because I am grateful for the way she has helped all the children to blossom and bloom as individuals. No rose is ever the same, neither is any child.
I also gave one to my son's Sunday school teacher yesterday. Linda has taught my son for 4 years and she is very dear to me. I taught her daughter Rebecca when she was 3 and 4 years old, so we have known each other a long time (she's 15 now and made her confirmation last year). Yesterday was Children's Sunday where the kids do the entire service. They receive their awards for attendance, participation in the bulletin cover contest and their promotion certificates. My son didn't want to participate in the cover contest this year. He was feeling lazy. I helped my little girl do one. My son was kicking himself when he found out all the kids who participated got $5.00 giftcards to McDonalds LOL. Oh well you snooze you lose!
The best part about Childrens Day for me is the slideshow. They do a powerpoint presentation set to music with hundreds of photos taken throughout the year. I was amazed there were so many of my kids. Years ago I would see only a couple but there must have been at least 30. I asked the woman who did the slideshow if she could email it to me. She said she didn't have the pics and the music together in one file and she was trying to learn how to do it and then she would sell the DVDs for like $5.00 to earn money for the church. Sounded reasonable to me, I'd buy it.
I signed my kids up for Vacation Bible School for August, even though I know my son will give me a hard time about going. He'd be fine if he had a friend going. I was hoping this kid Brandon from his class would be going but he will be away at camp. The rest of his class is all girls (see = YUCKY). So we need to find another boy to sign up. I haven't told him Brandon won't be around... SHHHHHHHHhhhhhhh
My son had his school concert last week too. He was in the band (percussion) and chorus. He has a great voice, it's just hard getting him to use it. He belongs to the Junior Choir at church, and for some reason he likes the Choir Director there and will work with and for her, but with anyone else it is pulling teeth. He's only 11 but he's a true tenor. You can pick his voice out from the rest of the kids even when there's a hundred of them up there.
He may have a hard time keeping up with band next year in middle school. For some dumb reason in 6th grade if the kids want to take a band instrument they have to be pulled out of an academic class to to it. They can rotate it so it is different classes, but they will still be missing teaching. Pretty stupid. But I do still want him to continue drums, mostly because he is not in a sport so he needs something besides his grades when he starts looking at colleges.
I was supposed to have an appointment today at the gyn/oncologist, for the colposcopy. Yeah, FINALLY. Well before my alarm can even go off my phone rang this morning and it was my older daughter's guidance counselor. She got into a "physical altercation" with another girl... the same girl who's been baiting her all year. And they wanted me to pick her up. Either that or I could stay home and they would send her home on a bus. Either way, I had to cancel my appointment. I told them I'd pick her up so I could talk to her and the counselor together.
She ended up with a one-day suspension. She has a final to take Wednesday. What is really sad is she had been doing SOOO well, she had made it up to level 4 for the first time in TWO YEARS. She was so proud of herself and I was proud of her too. This year was so different from last for her... she gained a lot of maturity. But today wasn't an example of that. And now she is back down to level 1.
I spoke with her probation officer (since she is on a PINS petition) to find out if she was required to go to school every day (as the district's form letter says) or if she should just show up the 2 days she has finals (as her teacher says). She has 2 finals in Global studies, one this Wednesday and one the following. If she passes this one, I think she can skip the next, but I'm going to confirm that with the guidance counselor. Anyway the PO said she can just go for the finals and skip the rest of the days, to avoid any further behavioral issues. I thought that was cool. He is going to close out her petition, and he has $100.00 worth of gift cards for her since she has done so well. Not bad!! Now we just have to get her a summer job.
Ok well that's all the news that's fit to print, for now.
I'm gonna try to go round and visit some of ya, lil by lil.
Take care,
Laura
